A man's been jailed for 10 years for a number of serious sexual assaults in the Inverclyde area.

Neil Kane, 54, was found guilty of the crimes, which took place between 1995 and 2010.

It's thought he committed seven offences against three different women within this period, and was sentenced today at the High Court in Glasgow.

Detective Constable Stewart Fleming said: "Kane was a violent individual who over several years carried out horrific sex attacks on three women.

"This case in particular showed that crimes committed years ago are still fully investigated and treated with the utmost importance.

"It is never too late to come forward."

He praised the women for coming forward, saying: "I would like to thank the victims for their bravery in what must have been a daunting task to report him to police, and then have the courage to provide their evidence in court.

"I hope that Kane's sentencing can bring them some comfort."
