A man has been seriously assaulted in his own home by a group of men who threw bricks at his windows and set a car on fire.
Police Scotland say the “targeted attack” happened at the man's home in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, at 11pm on Friday.
A group of men, who police believe arrived in a white Ford Transit van, forced their way into his property in the New Edinburgh Road area.
Bricks were thrown through the windows of his home and three vehicles were damaged outside the property. Police say one of the cars was deliberately set on fire.
The 39-year-old man opened his door to challenge the men and they forced their way inside before leaving him seriously injured.
He was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital and treated for serious injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as stable.
Detective Constable Christopher Norton, of Wishaw CID, said: “This was a brazen and targeted attack which has resulted in one man being taken to hospital. No-one else was injured, however, local residents were left shocked by the nature of this violent incident.
“Windows were damaged, a car was set ablaze and the victim was left seriously injured as a result of the attack. It is imperative that we trace the men responsible.
“We have been assessing available CCTV and speaking to local residents. We understand that the men may have entered the area in a white Ford Transit van.
“Local residents and passing motorists will have witnessed or heard this disturbance. I would ask anyone with information to contact detectives at Wishaw.”
