A man, who was seriously injured in an explosion in North Lanarkshire last week, has died.

The 23-year old was taken to hospital after the blast on Bonkle Road in Newmains on the 5th October - he passed away on Monday.

It's understood the explosion happened in a disused building that was part of Newmains Pastoral Centre - it was previously used as a retreat centre for the Diocese of Motherwell.

A 26-year old who was also injured remains in a serious condition.

It's thought both men were being treated for burn injuries.

Police Scotland say a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive is on-going.
