22 year old man in "serious condition" in hospital after M8 crash

He was struck by a red Toyota on the M8 near junction 24, Helen Street around 8.20am.

A 22-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car on the M8 on Thursday morning.

He was struck by a red Toyota on the eastbound M8 near to junction 24, Helen Street around 8.20am.

Police and Ambulance attended and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The 51-year-old driver of the Toyota did not need medical treatment.

The road was later reopened.

Sergeant Ryan McAuley, of the Road Policing Unit, said:

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and I would appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to contact 101 quoting reference 0557 of 12 July.

“I would also like to thank the public for their patience while officers dealt with this incident."
