Man in court charged with attempted murder of police officers in Greenock

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of two police officers.

Police constables Laura Sayer, 39, and Kenny MacKenzie, 43, were both seriously injured at a house in Gateside Gardens, Greenock, Inverclyde, on Friday morning.

William Taylor, 43, was arrested and appeared in private at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault to severe injury and two counts of permanent disfigurement.

He was also charged with obstructing police and threatening behaviour.

Taylor, from Greenock, made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Pc Sayer, who has six months' service with Police Scotland, and Pc MacKenzie, a serving officer for nine years, were discharged from hospital at the weekend after treatment.

The case was continued for further examination and Taylor is due to make a second court appearance next week
