Man charged over death of Airdrie grandfather
A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a grandfather who was found seriously injured on a road.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance in a house on Frew Street, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, early on Monday, August 19.
Colin MacDonald, 59, was found in critical condition a short time later at Rankin Crescent in nearby Greengairs.
He was taken to Monklands Hospital and died the following day.
Police said at the time they believed it was a "targeted attack''.
A 29-year-old man has now been arrested and charged and is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Police Scotland said enquiries remain ongoing into the incident.
Following Mr McDonald's death, his family issued a tribute through the police force.
They said: "Our dad Colin MacDonald was the best father we could have asked for. He was an amazing grandfather and an adored uncle, cousin, nephew and friend.
"We feel like we are stuck in a nightmare that we can't wake up from and that just keeps getting worse.
"We're still trying to wrap our heads around what has happened to him and that he's been so cruelly taken from us.''
They added: "We would like to thank family, friends, Police Scotland and the medical staff at Monklands Hospital for their overwhelming support and kindness.
"We want justice for our dad, we know it won't bring him back but we're determined to do everything we can to ensure another family doesn't have to go through what we are just now.'
