43-year-old man dies after being struck by car in Hamilton

He was taken to hospital in Glasgow where he later died.

A 43-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Hamilton in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called out to Meikle Earnock Road around 12.35am to the incident involving a pedestrian and a silver Skoda Octavia.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later.

Officers say his next of kin are aware.

The driver was uninjured.

The road was closed to allow for crash investigation work and re-opened around 8 o'clock this morning.

Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

“We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time to check if they have dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation.”
