A man has died after a road smash in Renfrewshire.

A man has died after a road smash in Renfrewshire.

The 54 year-old was driving a white Ford Transit van on Barochan Road in Johnstone around 8 o'clock last night when he hit a wall.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he later died.

A young child, who was a passenger in the van, was uninjured.

Officers at the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock are continuing their enquiries into the incident.

One line of enquiry is that the driver may have taken ill at the wheel, however any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Police constable John McLaughlin, Road Policing department at Greenock Police Office through 101.
