Man dies in road crash on the A78 at Inverkip

The 59-year-old died after the collision at 11.25 on Saturday night.

A 59-year-old man has died after a smash on the A78 road at Inverkip in Renfrewshire on Saturday night.

He was involved in a collision between a Toyota Yaris travelling south and northbound VW Golf.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The driver of the VW Golf, a 22-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

Sergeant Nick Twigg, Roads Policing Unit, Police Scotland, said:

“We are keen to hear from motorists in the area at the time, particularly anyone with dash-cam footage.

If you have any information that may assist officers with their investigation, please call police via 101 quoting reference number 3898 of Saturday, 15 October 2022.

“The road is now open.”
