Man dies after being hit by car in Blantyre

Officers from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after a fatal road crash in Blantyre earlier today.

Around 12.45am on Saturday 14 May 2016, a 59- year-old man was crossing Glasgow Road, near to its junction with Cowanwilson Avenue in Blantyre, when he was struck by a Suzuki Alto car being driven by an 18 year-old man.

Emergency services attended and the injured pedestrian was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 18 year-old driver of the Suzuki and his two male passengers aged 16 and 17 years did not require medical treatment.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Craig McDonald of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell is continuing his investigation into the cause of the crash. He is appealing to any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information that may assist his investigation to contact his office through the non-emergency number 101
