A 44-year-old man has died after falling into the Firth of Clyde off the South Ayrshire coast.

A 44-year-old man has died after falling into the Firth of Clyde off the South Ayrshire coast.

Police responded to a report of a man having fallen into the water by Troon South Beach at around 4:30am on Wednesday.

Emergency services recovered the man from the water before taking him to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: Police can confirm that a 44-year-old man has died in Troon on Wednesday.

"Police received a call at around 4:30am to a report of a man having fallen.

"Emergency services attended and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however at this time there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."

The man is still to be officially named by police.
