Man dies after jumping into quarry near Kilmarnock
The 28 year-old's body was pulled from the water before midnight on Monday 28th May.
A man has died after jumping into the water at a quarry near Kilmarnock.
Police were called to the Craigiehill site around 8.30pm on Monday 29th May.
Police have issued a statement about the incident. It read, "Officers were called to a report of a man jumping into water at Craigiehill Quarry, near Kilmarnock.
"Emergency services attended and the body of a 28 year-old man was recovered from the water around 11.55pm.
A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however there would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
Formal identification is yet to take place but the man has been named locally as Mark O'Brien.
Family and friends have taken to social media with tribures.
One friend wrote, "One of the best boys about, absolute heart of a lion and humble as a king."
Another said, "So heartbreaking how a beautiful fun day can end in such tragedy."
