Man, 57, dies after being hit by car in Mount Vernon

The 25-year-old driver was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and later released.

A man has died after being hit by a car in Mount Vernon.

The 57-year-old was crossing Mount Vernon Avenue, near to Sherburn Gardens, at around 5.50pm on Wednesday when he was knocked down by a black BMW.

Emergency services attended, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25-year-old driver of the BMW was arrested in connection with road traffic offences, and was later released pending further inquiries.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward, and are looking for dash-cam footage that could help with their investigation.

Sergeant Andrew Mair of the National Road Policing Unit said any information may be able to provide further insight that will assist cops.
