Man in court over police assault at Rangers title celebrations

A man has appeared in court accused of assaulting a police officer during the Rangers fans’ league title celebrations.

James Adams allegedly punched and elbowed a British Transport officer at Ibrox subway station on March 7 2021.

The 30-year-old is said to have attacked him on the head and body.

Adams is also accused of resisting arrest by struggling violently in an attempt to avoid being handcuffed.

Adams faces a further charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the subway station.

Prosecutors state Adams shouted, swore and behaved in an aggressive manner.

Adams’ final charge alleges that he breached coronavirus regulations by leaving his home address without a reasonable excuse to travel to Copeland Road, Glasgow.

Adams was one of 28 people arrested during the Gers title celebrations which took place at Ibrox Stadium and the city centre’s George Square.

A not guilty plea was entered by Adams, of the city’s Barlanark, at Glasgow Sheriff Court and a trial was set for early September.
