Man in court charged with murder of Glasgow shopkeeper

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a popular Glasgow shopkeeper.
Tanveer Ahmed, 32, from Bradford, is accused of killing Asad Shah, 40, outside his convenience store in the city's Shawlands area on Thursday night.
Ahmed made no plea or declaration at the brief hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance.
Police had previously described the incident as a religiously prejudiced attack.
Mr Shah was discovered outside his shop on Minard Road and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His death shocked members of the local community, who came together for vigils over the weekend.
Dozens of floral tributes were laid near his shop and a fundraising page set up on the GoFundMe website in support of his family has raised more than ÂŁ94,000.
Mr Shah moved to Scotland from Pakistan in the 1990s with his family.
His shop regulars described him as a ''pillar of the community'' and a "wonderful and gentle man''.
