Man Convicted Of Murder After Strangling Victim With A Scarf

A man was convicted of murdering a dad-of-one by violently beating him and then strangling him.

At the High Court in Glasgow 55-year-old George Smith was found guilty of punching, kicking and stamping on Steven Larkin before throttling him with a scarf.

The brutal attack on Mr Larkin took place at in Castlemilk on December 7, 2014.

Mr Larkin was attacked inside Smith's home where he was assaulted and then dragged from the flat onto the landing where his neck was compressed by a scarf.

The court was told that the brutal beating was not life-threatening, what killed Mr Larkin, 45, was being strangled with his scarf.

Smith denied murdering Mr Larkin, but the jury found him guilty by a majority verdict.

Sentence was deferred on Smith until next month at the High Court in Paisley for background reports.

The court was told that Smith has a number of previous convictions, including one for violence.
