Man charged with murder after charred body found in Glasgow park

Jude McPhie made no plea to charges of killing 31-year-old William Leiper and burning his remains in Hillhouse Park, Pollok

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of William Leiper, whose burned body was found at the site of a fire in a Pollok Park.

40-year-old Jude McPhie is accused of attacking the 31-year-old at his home between August 2nd and August 4th, before placing his body in a wheelie bin, transporting him to Hillhouse Park and setting it on fire.

McPhie is also accused of burning clothing and part of a blood soaked mattress in the rear garden of his home, and faces further charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice, and theft.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
