A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the discovery of a "suspect item" in Clydebank yesterday afternoon.

The alarm was first raised after 1 o'clock when police started knocking on doors on Overtoun Court asking people to evacuate their flats.

Many of them were able to take shelter across the road at Dalmuir Library before being put up in hotel accommodation overnight.

Kevin wasn't able to get back through his front door after finishing work last night.

He exclusively told Clyde 1: "All my money is in the house along with everything else.

"I got a phone call around 3pm yesterday to say that I might not be able to get back home.

"I spent the whole night in a hotel with nothing but the clothes I am in and if it wasn't for my neighbour, I wouldn't have had anything hot to eat."

The 26-year-old man under arrest has now been charged with a firearms offence and will appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court later.
