A man's recovering in hospital after being attacked with a knife in Rutherglen last night.

The 30 year-old was on a footpath on Greenhill Road around 9pm when he was seriously assaulted.

He was treated at Glasgow's Royal Infirmary for serious face and hand injuries and police are appealing for witnesses.

The suspect ran off in the direction of Mill Street.

The 30-year-old victim suffered serious injuries to his face and hand which required treatment at Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being struck with a bladed item.

Detective Constable Jennifer Thirtle of Cambuslang Police Station said: "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance around 9pm on Tuesday evening to get in touch.

"In addition we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously or loitering in the area around Greenhill Road before the incident took place.
