A man has appeared in court charged with bottling another man in the wake of Hogmanay's Old Firm fixture.

Kevin Hayes, 38, is accused of leaving Michael Drain scarred for life in the early hours of New Year's Day in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Hayes is said to have bottled Drain on the head and then rained kicks on his body at Drain's flat in the town's Renfrew Road during a dispute following Celtic's 2-1 win over Rangers.

Hayes was arrested over the alleged assault and held in police custody before appearing at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

He made no plea or declaration to the single charge against him - assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement - during a private hearing before Sheriff James Spy.

He was represented by defence solicitor Michael McKeown during the hearing, where he was released on bail.

Sheriff Spy continued the case against Hayes, of Tannahill Terrace, Paisley, and a trial is set to take place in due course.

Kenny Miller put Rangers ahead in Saturday's Ibrox clash but Celtic won 2-1 and extended the lead over their rivals to 19 points thanks to goals from Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.
