A man has appeared in court charged with the abduction and assault of a man who was dumped more than 250 miles from his home.

The 45-year-old victim was allegedly attacked at his house in Strafford Walk, Dodworth, Barnsley, and then driven to East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, where he was found by the side of a road in March.

Emergency services found the man on a grass verge near the junction of Stewartfield Way and Stewartfield Crescent on March 13 this year.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in the town for extensive treatment and has since been released.

Police north and south of the border launched a large-scale investigation named Operation Draken and a 48-year-old man was arrested by Police Scotland at the weekend.

David Sell appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday charged with abduction, assault to severe injury, permanent impairment and danger of life, the Crown Office said.

Sell, from East Kilbride, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

The case has been continued for further examination with the 48-year-old due to return to court later in December.
