A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his mum in Hamilton.

Craig Haley, 36, allegedly killed Mary Haley at a house in the town on February 8 this year.

Prosecutors claim the 75 year-old was punched and kicked as well as being hit with a "blunt implement" causing her to fall.

The charge states Haley then dragged the pensioner along the floor and stairs, before grabbing his mother by the neck and restricting her breathing by "manual strangulation".

Haley is separately accused of being threatening and abusive towards Mary between March 12 2019 and the day of the alleged murder.

This includes claims he demanded money from the OAP and caused her to flee from her home.

He is further charged with stealing a number of items from the house.

Haley made no plea as he appeared video-link for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.

No trial was set as judge Lord Weir adjourned the case until next month.
