A man today admitted killing his 65 year-old father.

A man today admitted killing his 65 year-old father.

Peter McDermott pled guilty to the culpable homicide of Bernard McDermott at a flat in Lynedoch Street, Greenock in April this year.

But, prosecutors rejected the plea at the High Court in Glasgow and the 41 year-old will remain accused of murdering his dad.

McDermott is said to have repeatedly knifed the the OAP on the head, neck and body.

The 41 year-old also faces a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice which includes claims that he hid a bloodstained knife and washed blood from his hands.

McDermott is further accused of having a knife in a public place and a separate charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

Judge Lord Turnbull set a further hearing due to take place in the New Year.
