Man jailed for attempted murder in East Kilbride
A man's admitted trying to kill another during half time of a football match the victim had been watching. Johnny McCallum, 29, stabbed Ryan Caird twice in Calderwood Square, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire last November 24.
Mr Caird had been with friends at his flat nearby catching a game on TV before leaving during the break to pick up takeaway food.
Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel told the High Court in Glasgow there was then "animosity" outside between the victim's group and McCallum.
Mr Caird then appeared armed with a hammer and lunged at McCallum.
Miss Dalziel: "There was then a struggle, which resulted in McCallum pulling a knife from his waistband and wielding it.
"Ryan Caird was then stabbed in the chest twice before McCallum was chased away."
Caird was helped to his flat before being rushed to hospital.
The court heard he suffered two cardiac arrests and needed eight units of blood following the attack.
He ended up intensive care and was only able to leave hospital in December 13 last year.
McCallum, of no fixed abode, pled guilty to attempted murder charge.
The court was told it was accepted he acted under provocation.
Miss Dalziel said McCallum already had 14 previous convictions and was on bail at the time.
Judge Douglas Brown remanded him in custody pending sentencing in October.
