Man admits attacking teenager outside Glasgow restaurant
Beattie, of the city’s Govan area, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault and robbery charge.
A teenager was assaulted to his head and body over £20, a court heard today.
Rory Mackie (18) was beaten up by Robert Beattie (32) outside Zizzi’s Restaurant in Glasgow last June.
Beattie, of the city’s Govan area, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault and robbery charge.
He will spend to 18 months behind bars.
The court heard Mr Mackie went outside to have a cigarette when Beattie pounced on him.
Beattie told the victim that “he better not be cheeky” before he started the attack.
Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “He pulled his clothing and searched him and then put him in a head lock.
“The victim was repeatedly punched on the head and body.
“His mobile phone was stolen as was his money and a quantity of £20.”
The incident was captured on CCTV which alerted police.
They arrested Beattie and charged him with the crime - he made no reply.
The mobile phone hasn’t been recovered.
David O’Hagan, defending, said Beattie doesn’t remember much about the event.
He claimed the robber was addicted to valium and saw an opportunity for money.
Beattie appeared from custody as he was jailed for housebreaking in Paisley earlier this year.
Sheriff Martin Jones QC told Beattie: “This man was unknown to you and this was a very serious offence considering your record.
“This type of offence is becoming more prevalent in Glasgow and this must be stamped out.
“We take a strong view on this in Glasgow.
