Stereofunk Festival reveals Mallorca Lee arena with tribute DJ set by son
Ultra Sonic frontman, Mallorca Lee, passed away earlier this year - just weeks after his terminal cancer diagnosis
The son of the late Scottish DJ, Mallorca Lee, is set to play a special tribute set at Stereofunk Festival in memory of his dad.
Mallorca Lee founded Ultra Sonic in Ayrshire in 1991, and went on to enjoy worldwide success as a DJ.
He passed away in February 2024 at age 51, just weeks after a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Organisers of Stereofunk Festival in Lanarkshire have said he was "part of the event", having played consistently since it started almost 20 years ago.
Bosses have renamed the main arena after Mallorca Lee, with his son Oceano set to play a tribute set.
Oceano is taking up the baton this year with the help and support of Dream Frequency's Ian Bland - one of Mallorca's close friends.
Event manager Elliott Boyce said: "We're delighted to honour Mallorca this year by renaming our main arena after him. We're also privileged to have his son, Oceano Lee, do a headline set in his dad's arena.
"Mallorca was more than just an act that you booked for the event, he was a massive part of the event and, in many ways, he was Stereofunk.
"He was one of the good guys in the industry and he genuinely loved seeing the festival get bigger.
"He was huge across the Scottish dance music scene, but also part of our festival. We've been going for 19 years and right from the start, he was there year-on-year.
"The reaction online about his death, the funeral, and how many people he touched shows how massive he was across Scotland but also across the world.
"It's been an incredibly sad time, something we really struggled with.
"When his passing was announced, we went radio silent and we didn't know what to do.
"It was a massive shock for us, but following that, we looked at what we could do.
"We thought the best way to carry on his legacy is to pass the baton onto his son and that's why we're delighted to get Oceano to play a headline set this year."
Stereofunk Festival takes place on May 4 2024 at Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton.
