A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for the attempted murder of a 37-year-old woman in Lanark in May 2022.

William Kemp was found guilty on Tuesday, 16 April, 2024 following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was convicted at the same court on Wednesday, 20 March, 2024.

Kemp attacked the woman, who was 35-years-old at the time, with a machete, after forcing his way into a flat on North Vennel around 4am on Monday, 2 May, 2022.

Detective Sergeant David Duers, Lanarkshire Division said said: “Although this was a terrifying attack on the woman, she has had the courage to see this investigation through to its conclusion. It is thanks to her testimony that this man is off the street and now faces the consequences of his violent actions.”
