Average speed cameras are going to be set up during four months of roadworks on the busy stretch of the M8 between the junctions for the Braehead Shopping Centre and the Clyde Tunnel.

A ÂŁ2 million programme of bridge refurbishment works will begin today (Monday 7th March) between Junctions 25 and 25A lasting through until the end of June.

Maintenance firm Amey is warning drivers about overnight closures of the motorway and narrow lanes during the project, but all the slip roads will remain open.

The refurbishment works are being undertaken on three bridges including bridge deck waterproofing, concrete repairs, parapet upgrades, drainage improvements and resurfacing works.

A contraflow will be in operation for much of the period with the motorway having to be closed overnight when cones and barriers have to be repositioned.

Average speed cameras will be set up to control the speed of traffic passing through the work zone and ensure safety with the narrower lanes.

Overnight closures at Provan

Also starting today (Monday 7th) are four weeks of overnight closures between J12 Provan and J15 Blochairn to improve the surface of bridge decks and check the condition of joints.

For the first week the westbound carriageway will be closed with traffic leaving at Junction 12 and follow and Cumbernauld Road southbound, Alexandra Parade westbound before joining Castle Street.

Vehicles will then join the A803, follow Stirling Road before re-joining via the M8 Junction 15 westbound on-slip.

There will also be closures on Provan Road with diversions until Friday 11th.

From Tuesday 15th there will be closures in the eastbound direction with traffic leaving the M8 at J13 to join the M80 northbound to J2 where they will turn around and head south again to rejoin the M8.

From Monday 21st the eastbound carriageway will closed between J13 and J12.

Traffic will leave the M8 at Junction 13 and join the M80 northbound to J2 where they join the B765 Robroyston Road, then back to the M8 at J12 via Provanmill Road and Cumbernauld Road.
