Man arrested after overnight vehicle fire closes M8 in Renfrewshire
Long queues built up at rush hour as police investigate
A man's been arrested in connection with a vehicle blaze which has closed part of the M8 in Renfrewshire since the early hours of this morning.
Police sealed off the westbound carriageway between Junction 28 at Glasgow Airport and Junction 30, the sliproad for the Erskine Bridge.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.55am on Tuesday, 7 November, 2023, police received a report of a damaged vehicle on fire, on the M8 near junction 29, Paisley.
Delays during investigation
“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
“The road is currently closed to allow for investigation and recovery to take place. Local diversions are in place.”
During the morning rush hour the closure led to long tailbacks on the M8 towards Cardonald, with a knock-on impact on the northbound A737.
