A driver who went at almost double the speed limit and tailgated a motorist was fined £335 today.

Daniel Nadeem, 22, travelled at more than 110 miles per hour on the M74 near Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, on July 23, 2021.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard officers in an unmarked police vehicle had their attention drawn to Nadeem's grey BMW.

Nadeem was driving "at speed" and overtook the police vehicle.

He initially travelled at 70 miles per hour on the 60-limit road while on the third lane.

Prosecutor Jeremy O'Neill said: "Officers saw that Nadeem was on a full acceleration and continued to speed down the lane.

"Officers pursued him while travelling at 110 miles per hour."

It was clarified that the officers were travelling at 110 miles per hour to keep tabs on Nadeem.

Officers then noted that Nadeem drove close to the back of a car that was changing lanes.

Mr O'Neill stated that Nadeem left "little distance" between the two vehicles.

Nadeem was then pulled over by the officers.

He pleaded guilty last month to careless driving.

Sheriff Jonathan Guy disqualified Nadeem, of Stepps, North Lanarkshire, for eight months as well as the fine.
