Roadworks warning for holidaymakers with M74 closures announced
Glasgow's main motorway link with the south will close for four nights
Glasgow’s motorway link with the south west of Scotland and the north of England will be closed for four nights next month, with a potential impact on holiday traffic heading for Manchester Airport and other destinations.
Engineers have ordered a total traffic ban on the southbound M74 between the east of Glasgow and Hamilton / Motherwell to allow for the fitting of traffic sensors.
Work on the motorway will be carried out between 10pm and 6am from Tuesday 1st August to Saturday 5th August to minimise disruption, says Transport Scotland.
Two phases
The first phase of work will see traffic banned from the M74 southbound between Junction 3A Daldowie and Junction 4 Maryville on Tuesday 1s and Wednesday 2nd.
The closure extends to the southbound link road to the M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville
The closure the moves south with the road blocked between, Junction 5 Raith and Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th, reopening at 6am on Saturday 5th.
Diversion signs will be set up to help drivers find their way around the closure.
