Man dies following M74 lorry crash

A 32-year-old man has died after a crash on the M74 in Lanarkshire.

The lorry was travelling northbound when it crashed through the central reservation and collided with an oncoming vehicle on the other side of the carriageway.

The incident happened at around 7.50am on Saturday, 29 January near junction 10 and 11.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s family has been informed.

The male driver of the other vehicle, a black Land Rover Discovery, was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Appeal for witnesses

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is now under way to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

"The road remains closed to allow crash scene investigators to examine the scene and conduct enquiries.

"Officers are appealing to any motorists who were on the M74 with any dash cam devices to check their footage.

"It's possible it may have captured images which could assist officers in their enquiries."
