A young boy’s been knocked down and killed on his way home from school in the East end of Glasgow.
The 5-year-old had just come out of St Paul’s Primary in Shettleston when he was struck by a white transit van, on Dalness Street, just after 3pm on Monday afternoon.
Our chief reporter Linda Sinclair’s been speaking to Gordon Nicoll – the Director of Welding Engineering who own the van involved in the crash.
He’s told Clyde News it wasn’t one of his workers behind the wheel:
An ambulance rushed the Primary One pupil to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
Glasgow East MP Natalie McGarry has been speaking to Clyde News:
Sergeant Jackie Dunbar, said: From our inquiries so far, it would appear that the boy, a pupil at St Paul's (Shettleston) Primary School on Anwoth Street, Glasgow, was struck by the van, which had come in to Dalness Street from Tollcross Road, as it turned into a car park on Dalness Street.
It was picking up time at the school and there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident.
I would ask that anyone who saw what happened, and who has not already been spoken to by police, to contact officers.''
Dalness Street remained closed last night to allow officers to carry out their investigations.
Geraldine Millar, St Paul’s (Shettleston) Primary School said: “We are devastated at this very sad news and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.”
