LISTEN: Tory Leader Leaves Glasgow To Stand In Edinburgh
It's time for a change in location for Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson who'll seek election as an MSP in Edinburgh.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson will seek election as an MSP in Edinburgh next May, it has been announced.
Listen to our reporter Shiona McCallum's chat with her here:
Ruth has written to members across Glasgow – the area she currently represents – to inform them of her decision.
She will now go through the same process as other prospective MSP candidates seeking to contest a seat in the Capital and find a place on the Lothians list.
Ruth moved to Edinburgh in February to direct the Scottish Conservatives’ General Election campaign, and will again lead May’s campaign from the city.
Being born in Edinburgh and having attended university there, and having lived and worked in the city, she has a lifelong connection.
She said; "It has been an enormous privilege to serve as an MSP in Glasgow over the last four years.
"My role as an MSP in Glasgow has allowed me to help hundreds of constituents, visit scores of businesses, charities and schools and play a large part in the civic life of the city.
"For the elections next year, I will be putting my name forward to stand as a candidate in the Lothians region.
"As a party, we want to pull out all the stops ahead of next May's Scottish Parliament elections.
"I believe standing for election in Edinburgh will help us maximise our support so that, come May next year, we return the largest number of Scottish Conservatives to Holyrood ever.”
