Stand Up to Racism are encouraging people to turn out in large numbers today to help spread their anti-racism message.

Coinciding with the UN's Anti-Racism Day, the march will gather on Holland Street at 11am.

The rally will arrive at George Square just after midday, where there is plenty of activities organised for those who attend.

Speakers at the march will include Baillie Farida Thomas from Glasgow City Council, and Dr. Alasdair Allan, the Scottish Government Minister for International Development and Europe.

There will also be live music on show, with bands turning out to entertain the protesters in support of the cause.

Pinar Aksu of Stand Up to Racism helped plan the event, and she is hoping that there will be a good turn-out.

She said, "The aim of Stand Up to Racism is to create a place and a space where people can share ideas and share their thoughts and learn from each other.

"It will be amazing if there is lots of people who turn up to the demonstration because it's really important today to say that we do accept people and we do welcome people from different countries and we do oppose any sort of racism in our society".

This will be the fourth year that Stand Up to Racism have organised this rally, and Aksu is hoping last year's success carries over.

She said, "We had thousands of people in the street, especially last year because of the breakout of the refugee crisis.

"We had so many people that were angry and so many people that wanted to share their voices and hopefully this year there's going to be the same numbers".
