School's back for the dozens of kids who were given an impromptu day off at Glasgow's Merrylee Primary yesterday - after 12 members of staff called in sick.

Mums and dads were left scrambling for child care after council bosses closed the school to senior pupils due to a lack of cover.

"Senior staff will be drafted in from the education department to help run the school for primaries one to three."

Last night Glasgow City Council confirmed the school would be open to all pupils on Tuesday.

But officials at Scotland's biggest teaching union, the EIS, say there's a shortage of supply teachers across the country.
