LISTEN: Petition to rename Glasgow street to honour David Bowie
A group of local music lovers are calling on the city council to rename a Glasgow street to memorialise rock legend David Bowie who died earlier this week.
Over one thousand people have signed a petition to rename Duke Street in Dennistoun to Thin White Duke Street since it was started yesterday.
David Blair from local band Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 created the petition after a suggestion from street resident Marie McArdle.
He's been speaking to our reporter Lizzie Parker:
The petition reads: "David Bowie's passing has seen an outpouring of grief not seen in a long time in the music world. The Starman is, quite simply, one of the greatest artists of all time.
"As a City of Culture, music capital of the world and in recognition of the fact he played the legendary east-end Barrowland Ballroom (not far from Duke Street) on Tuesday 22nd July 1997.
"The Yellow Movement would like to see his memory immortalised by changing the street name of Duke Street to Thin White Duke Street."
