LISTEN: Glasgow Airport to run new daily Paris service from March
A new daily flight between Glasgow and Paris has been announced.
The Air France service to Charles de Gaulle will start on March 27 next year.
Managing Director of Glasgow Airport Amanda McMillan has been speaking to Lizzie Parker:
A 131-seat flight will leave Paris at 7.30am each weekday, arriving at 8.15am, then will depart Glasgow at 9am, arriving in Paris at 11.50am local time.
The airline said it will offer passengers from Glasgow a number of connections from Paris to destinations including Shanghai, Tokyo and New York.
Warner Rootliep, general manager of Air France-KLM UK & Ireland, said: "Demand from Scotland continues to grow and Air France has always invested in its Scottish network and local relationships from the region.
"We are pleased to further strengthen our presence in Scotland with the introduction of the Glasgow-Paris route and we are confident the news will be well received.
"Air France KLM's Scottish offering will ensure that local businesses are better connected to key markets around the world and we are proud to provide the largest city in Scotland with connectivity to and from key worldwide destinations."
Figures released earlier in December showed Glasgow Airport is on track to record its busiest year since 2008. It saw 618,583 passengers travel during November - an annual increase of 7.7%.
Managing director Amanda McMillan said: Air France is a major player in the world of aviation with an extensive route network through its hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle into important global markets such as South America, China, India and Africa.
"The airline's decision to introduce a daily summer service from Glasgow Airport will play a crucial role in encouraging export-led growth, attracting further inward investment and supporting Scotland's burgeoning tourism industry.
"Glasgow is the economic powerhouse of Scotland and the arrival of the French national flag carrier will further boost our connectivity with the world.
"This announcement rounds off what has been a remarkable year for Glasgow Airport in terms of passenger growth and route development.
"We have been working closely with our city and national partners to add further new routes for our passengers and we are looking forward to welcoming Air France on board in 2016.''
The announcement comes as Edinburgh Airport also added a new Paris flight for 2016 services.
Transavia - the low-cost airline of the Air France-KLM Group - will operate four weekly flights on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between Edinburgh and Paris Orly from April.
