LISTEN: D-Day for George Square protestors

campaigners protesting about homelessness who have been camping outside the City Chambers face eviction

It is D-Day for protestors who have been occupying Glasgow's George Square as a sheriff is set to evict them later this afternoon.

Around 20 people have been camping outside the City Chambers in a demo about homelessness and inequality.

Glasgow City Council raised an action at the Sheriff Court and now they have to leave the site by 4pm.

The protestors say they have appealed that move and are awaiting the outcome.

Our Chief Reporter Linda Sinclair spoke to David at the site.

In a statement Glasgow City Council say:

"We are pleased the court supported our action to evict those camping in George Square.

"We fully support the right to protest, but the court found that those camping in George Square have no right to occupy a publicy-owned space on a permanent basis or an indefinite basis.

"George Square is owned and maintained by the council for the benefit of the whole community."
