Nicola Sturgeon’s coming under pressure to step in and save the children’s ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Scottish Labour made the call during First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood yesterday and Renfrewshire Council have now issued an emergency motion calling on the Scottish Government to reverse the health board’s decision to close Ward 15.

Ahead of the Scottish Parliament election last year, Nicola Sturgeon was asked in a live TV debate about proposals to close the children’s ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital by local resident Gordon Clark.

The SNP leader replied: “There are no proposals to close that particular ward.”

Gordon’s been speaking to Clyde News:

On Tuesday NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde voted for a proposal to close the children’s ward. A final decision on the closure now rests with the SNP government in Edinburgh.

Clyde News understands the Health Secretary, Shona Robison, will now visit the ward before making a final decision.
