Councillors are meeting this afternoon to talk about installing permanent light fixtures in parks across Glasgow in another big win for the Light The Way campaign.

The move is being considered after three successful trials in Kelvingrove, Cranhill and Queens Park which started in December last year.

Our success so far:

Cat's eye lighting was put down on several routes through Kelvingrove and Queens Park while old fixtures were repaired and rewired at Cranhill in the East End.

A trial of a single light fixture in Queens Park also went live in January.

Convener for Neighbourhood Services Ruairi Kelly told Clyde 1: "We had to make sure that the solar lighting was giving off enough light over the winter because there is not a great deal of sunshine at that time of year.

"We have been able to adjust some of the settings on those particular lights so they work in all seasons."

Our Light The Way round table event last year:

The council is investigating various funding options through infrastructure and investment schemes.

These include the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Investment Fund and Langside and Southside Central Area Partnership.

Long term supporter of the Light The Way campaign Jill Brown added: "I am disappointed the administration has not put money in this year's budget for lights in parks.

"That means the next opportunity to do so will be next February.

"This campaign has come such a long way from when we all stood outside in the pitch black to call for some lighting and now there are routes through parks which are accessible in the hours of darkness."
