The Legacy Hub, which was built in Dalmarnock following the Commonwealth Games in 2014, is closing with immediate effect.

Parents of children at the nursery there were contacted on Thursday evening and asked to attend an urgent meeting on Friday.

When parents arrived, they were told that administrators had been appointed, and the nursery will be closing immediately.

A petition has now been started on Change.org calling for the hub to be given more support.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said:

"We understand that the closure of the nursery is a significant concern to the families that use it - and we are offering support to identify suitable alternative provision."

The £3.5 million facility was funded by the Scottish Government, Clyde Gateway and the Big Lottery Fund Scotland, and has been run by the People's Development Trust.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said:

"We are saddened to hear of the People’s Development Trust entering administration and the impact this has had on trust staff and services provided to the local community.

"Although this is a matter for the People’s Development Trust and Glasgow City Council, we recognise the importance of the Legacy Hub to the people of Glasgow.

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely and consider any support we can offer through our Partnership Action for Continuing Employment."

The hub is home to the nursery, a community hall and healthcare services, and was opened in October 2015 by Kenny Dalglish.

Blair Nimmo, Joint Administrator and KPMG’s UK head of restructuring said:

“Unfortunately, The People’s Development Trust was unable to continue trading in light of significant liabilities and cashflow difficulties.

"This has, in turn, resulted in the redundancies which have been announced and the closure of a number of services provided by the Legacy Hub.

"We will be working with all affected employees, the parents of the nursery children, Glasgow City Council and the relevant government agencies, including the PACE team at Skills Development Scotland, to ensure a full range of support is available.

"We will also work with key stakeholders, particularly the local community, to determine the future of the Legacy Hub."
