Roads and railways have been blocked by heavy snow overnight in Lanarkshire.

The M74 is closed in both directions following incidents in the snow.

A lorry has jackknifed and spilled a significant amount of fuel causing the motorway to be closed southbound between J10 at Lesmahagow and J12 for the A70.

Further south snow is blocking the road between J14 for Crawford and Thornhill to J15 A701 at Beattock and Moffat.

The road is also closed because of an accident northbound between J13 Abington and J12 Millbank.

ScotRail is unable to run trains between Lanark and Motherwell due to the heavy snowfall which has affected points at Carstairs and also at Mossend.

The Met Office has a yellow weather warning for snow in place until 9am on Friday morning.

Conditions are expected to improve during the day with the snow giving way to showers, and cloudier conditions with the temperature rising above freezing.
