Motorcyclist dies in crash with car

A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a car in North Lanarkshire.

The 37-year old man died at the scene when the blue Yamaha YZF R1 motorcycle collided with a red Ford Focus car on the A775 Edinburgh Road at about 4.25pm on Monday.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, was not injured.

Police are appealing for information about the crash which happened near the junction for Biggar Road.

Sergeant Nick Twigg said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist is asked to get in touch.

"If you were driving near the area at the time, and have not already spoken to police, or have dashcam that could assist, then please make contact with officers."

Following the crash the road was closed for accident investigation work and reopened at about 11.25pm on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2476 of Monday September 16.
