Man killed in South Lanarkshire road crash

It happened near the village of Douglas on Sunday afternoon

A pensioner's been killed in a crash in rural South Lanarkshire on Sunday afternoon..

The 70-year-old was driving a grey Ford Puma on the A70 Ayr Road in Douglas, near to the junction with Covenanters Way, when the crash happened at around 3.05pm.

The emergency services were called but the man was declared dead at the scene.

Police Scotland say he died at the scene at the road was closed for just under three and a half hours.

Footage appeal

Road Policing Sergeant Jim Dewar said: "Our thoughts are with the family and the friends of the man who died at this difficult time.

"Our inquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the car prior to the crash to get in touch.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in the area around that time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to get in touch.
