Man in hospital with head injuries after machete attack

The 31-year-old was attacked in Lanark on Lanimer Day

A man's being treated for head injuries after what police say was a targetted attacked with a machete in Lanark on Lanimer Day.

The 31-year-old was seriously assualted on Rhyber Avenue around 8.35pm on Thursday 9th June.

Police Scotland say the suspect, along with up to three other men, also vandalised the windows of a house in street before driving off in a dark coloured car.

Victim stable in hospital

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains for treatment for head injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as stable.

Detective Sergeant Jim Williamson, Wishaw CID, said:

“Whilst the motive for this attack has still to be established, we believe that the man, for whatever reason, was specifically targeted.

“At this time we have no description of the suspects. Rhyber Avenue is residential and I am sure that people would have seen, or at least heard the attack take place."
