One of Glasgow's busiest stretches of road over the Kingston Bridge is being closed eastbound for roadworks every night between 8pm and 6am until the end of February.

The ongoing £600,000 project to renew the expansion joints is switching onto the Eastbound carriageway from Monday.

145,600 vehicles use the bridge to cross the River Clyde on the M8 ever day, and Amey, which has the maintenance contract for trunk roads in the south west of Scotland, says the works are needed to improve the condition of the 50-year-old structure and reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Diversion route

From Monday 31st January there will be a total closure of the M8 carriageway eastbound from junction 21 to junction 18 from 8pm.

Traffic will be diverted from the M8 at junction 21 – Seaward St – Paisley Rd – Kingston St – King George V bridge – Broomielaw – North St – follow junction 18 permanent signs.
