William Kelly is alleged to have set his 71 year-old mum on fire in February.

A Kilmarnock man is to stand trial charged with murdering his mother by setting fire to her.

William Kelly faced the claim during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday 4th July.

The 41 year-old is accused of killing Catherine Kelly at a house in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire in February this year.

It is claimed he assaulted her before setting her alight.

Kelly was also accused of other allegations in connection with his mum – including attempted murder and assault.

His QC Gordon Jackson pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
