We are being told to reassure our kids there is no "killer clowns" running about Glasgow and the West - after rumours started circulating on social media the American craze had come to Scotland.

Police say they have had reports of people dressed as the circus characters and anyone scaring children or unsuspecting passers-by will feel the full force of the law.

Rumours started circulating on social media on Thursday night about sightings in Glasgow and the West.

Concerned mum Siobhian Brown told us kids are so scared they’re taking knives to school to protect themselves…

The disturbing trend started in the US and has crossed the pond - a teenager was arrested on Northumberland yesterday and there has been sightings reported in Edinburgh and Glasgow with Facebook pages set up to report any sightings.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are unaware of any reports of this nature, however, any person seeking to cause distress and potential harm to anyone should be aware that police will take action. If anyone has any concerns they should report the matter to police. “
