Developer Cala Homes says it will start work straight away on turning the former Jordanhill teaching campus in Glasgow into an area with 400 homes.

The firm has completed a deal to buy the 31 acre site from the University of Strathclyde and plans to invest £100m in creating the Jordanhill Park development.

The landmark David Stow building will be retained as part of the scheme and the first homes will be ready to move in to by 2020.

Cala has also pledged to ensure the existing playing fields remain open and available to local community.

Jim McIntyre, managing director, CALA Homes (West), said: “We’re extremely proud of our plans for the former Jordanhill Campus and we’d like to thank the University of Strathclyde for its support throughout the planning and land acquisition process."

“Jordanhill Park is a landmark development for CALA, with its mix of homes to suit all, from young professionals to growing families and downsizers. Located in the heart of Glasgow, this development will provide the city with much needed well-built, high quality homes.

Cala says the homes, designed by architects 7N, will offer a diverse range of luxurious contemporary homes from one-bedroom flats to detached five-bedroom houses.

It's claimed the construction of the development will create more than 200 new jobs and deliver an economic boost of over £5 million in Gross Added Value.

Work including building demolition and safe disconnection of utilities will begin immediately, and there is no longer any public access to any part of the former campus. Alternative access to the existing playing fields adjacent to the site will be established and community notices boards have also been installed around the perimeter of the site to advise of the changes
